A woman from Cumbum, Tamil Nadu reportedly earns Rs 30,000 monthly, selling readymade shirt collars to garment manufacturing companies. Let us take a look at her impressive achievement.

In the Cumbum Theni district, several ready-made garment manufacturing companies export a massive number of garments every month. The garments produced here are often exported to different states of India and also to foreign countries. These garment companies provide income opportunities to women in the area.

Shajira Parveen, a resident of Cumbum, prepares and sells components like shirt collar canvases and other necessary parts that are often required during the manufacturing of garments. In an Interview with Local 18, the woman mentioned that she wanted to open a business on her own and thus she decided to manufacture these at her home itself. She has also set up a small factory mainly operated by women. Shajira said, “For a long time, I wanted to start a business of my own. Then, I saw there was a significant demand for shirt collar canvases and thus I started to manufacture those from my home. I then managed to gather a small investment and started producing the shirt collar canvases and other components that are very important for manufacturing readymade garments.” Shirt collar canvases are placed inside the collar of readymade shirts.

With the festival season approaching, the production of readymade garments has increased significantly and so has the demand for shirt collar canvases. Shajira Parveen further mentioned that as a women entrepreneur, she tries to employ more women in this work so that they can earn their livelihood. As the festival season is approaching, everyone is working overtime to meet the demands. The woman mentioned that from this business she earns around Rs 30,000 every month.
