New Delhi: A portion of over head wire snapped between Delhi Metro's Subhash Nagar and Tilak Nagar stations on Monday, severely disrupting services for around three hours, which spilled on to the evening peak period, inconveniencing thousands of commuters.

The incident happened at around 4.30 PM when part of an OHE between the two stations broke, a metro official said. Thereafter trains ran on a single line on that stretch till around 7 PM when services were restored after repairing of the damaged portion.

Operations suffered a hit due to bunching of trains across the 50-km-long corridor (Line 3/4), which connects Dwarka to Vaishali and Noida City Centre. Several trains came to a standstill, stranding passengers.

A section of the passengers also complained of being penalised due to overshooting the time limit of staying inside the metro system, which they said was unfair as it was due to a fault on the metro's part.

When asked, a senior DMRC official said that directions were given not to penalise genuine excess time cases. The official also urged passengers to approach the customer care centres or public complaints officers with their grievances.

"Train services on Line 3 was affected due to OHE breakdown between Subhash Nagar and Tilak Nagar station of Up Line (Going from Noida towards Dwarka) around 4.35 PM. "This led to bunching of trains on Up Line. Trains ran on a single line between Tilak Nagar and Rajouri Garden till the OHE was rectified around 7.05 PM," a Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) spokesperson said.

The official said that the reason behind the snapping of the wire, coming as it does on a corridor which has earned the notoriety of being snag-prone due to a series of disruptions over the years, was being looked into.
