A man from Andhra Pradesh’s NTR district has defied societal expectations and embraced love by marrying a transgender woman, whom he had met and fallen in love with three years ago.
The man, Nandu, a native of Vissannapet, and the transgender woman Nakshatra, a resident of Enkur crossed paths through Instagram. Despite several rejections from family and community, Nandu married Nakshatra with the help of transgender association of the state.
In the presence of the association representatives, Nandu and Nakshatra tied knots in a traditional way at Sri Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy Temple in Garlavoddu of Enkur Mandal on Sunday.
“We both personally met and took decision on marriage but my family members rejected our marriage proposal. I met the members of the transgender association and the marriage happened without any hurdles”, Nandu said.
The members of transgender association from various districts attended the event and blessed the couple wholeheartedly.
Speaking with News18 , the transgender woman said that she came to Enkur in 2015 and could not find a rented house, adding that people boycotted her and even filed a complaint against her at a local police station.
“I suffered with social boycott. I requested with folded hands with the police and community people and finally I got a rented house.” She said that the sub-inspector assured the community members that my conduct in the society will be good.
“The sub inspector at the police station assured the local people that I will be sent out from the town if my conduct is not good.”
She said that her conduct and nature helped her to quickly settle in the society, adding that “the residents of the colony who complained against me, since then are treating me as goddess.”
Sharing about her love life, Nakshatra said that she too has suffered a heart break, but now she trust Nandu. “He (Nandu) equally distribute money between his parents and me,” she said, adding that they will adopt a child in future and will make their home in the colony itself.
