THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Manjulan K V, an upcoming actor in the Malayalam film industry who is mostly seen on screen as a villain or an actor playing grey roles, will soon be seen in an untitled Kannada movie. The shooting location of this movie is in the best scenic spots of Karnataka like Shimoga and Karwar. In the film he will be essaying the role of a villain named ‘Shanker’, a terror who is called Shankarji’ with respect.This artist whose acting career started with theatre slowly moved to the silver screen and he proved his mettle there too. He has acted in a few Malayalam movies such as ‘Aparichithan’, ‘Prajapathi’ and ‘Bhagyadevatha’. He also played the lead role in the Malayalam movie ‘December’. In the movie ‘Bhagyadevatha’ he is the one who falls in love and gets married to Jayaram’s sister after receiving Rs 10 lakh as dowry.This young actor has also tried his hand in Bollywood. He says, “I got the golden opportunity of being a part of the Hindi film industry three years back. I was offered the role of a hero in the Hindi movie ‘Vadhakaram’.”Asked about why he is stuck to playing negative roles and not found in lead roles, Manjulan says, “I am a director and a trainer in theatre, so most of the time I would be travelling all over the country and abroad showcasing my team’s performance. It would be then that I get an offer for a film, so most often I would be forced to turn it down as I would be busy with my theatre assignments.”  Manjulan, who hails from Payyanur, Kannur district, completed his graduation in Theatre Arts from School of Drama, Thrissur and further pursued his post graduation in Classical Indian Theatre from Kalady Sanskrit University.  He received the G Shankarapillai Endowment Award in 1997 and the Best Director Award instituted by Kerala Sangeetha Nataka Academy in 1998 for the play ‘Kelu’. He played the role of ‘Che Guevara’ in the Kerala State Award Winning play ‘Che Guevara’ in 2000. His solo drama ‘Koonan’ has performed on 1,050 stages so far. Manjulan has been a trainer in many theatre workshops, both Indian and International. Apart from movies and dramas, he has also been a part of television serials playing the role of a police officer in ‘Amma Manasu’ and ‘Autograph’.“After my shoot for the Kannada movie in March, I will leave for Dubai for directing a play,” says the actor, who tries to balance his place both on stage and on screen.
