KOCHI: A unique stall that catches one's eye at the 15th Kochi International Book Festival currently on at Ernakulathappan Ground is 'Positive Writing' a stall set up by K Unnikrishna Menon. He retired as a Finance Accounts Officer from CIBA (Central Institute of Brackish Water Aquaculture) and out of curiosity self studied the skill of handwriting analysis with the help of materials and appeared for test by the Handwriting University International, Dallas. Identifying an individual's subconscious and conscious personality traits through handwriting is what Menon does. Graphology or handwriting analysis tells more about ones character, temperament, emotional state and other character specifications which you might not have guessed until then. Unnikrishna is also an expert in Grapho-therapy, a science which combines the principles of neurology and psychology of handwriting analysis to improve ones personality wherever required, by manually correcting the style of writing. This makes it less of a speculative skill and more science.Grapho-therapy helps in strengthening character by changing strokes in writing. Science believes that writing is not done with one's hand alone, but with brain, muscles and nerves reacting to ones conscious, sub conscious and emotional stimuli, he explains. “Handwriting analysis can be used as a tool for self improvement, compatibility assessment and for behavioural investigation. It helps you to understand how relationships works within the family and outside. Recognising one's personal traits also helps one to make better choices,” says Unnikrishna. The minutest of graphic symbol or strokes in a person's handwriting determines the qualities and traits of a person. Says Unnikrishna “The way you hold a pen while writing shows your attitude to life. A person who holds the pen right above the nib restricts himself in exploring life, whereas a person holding it above makes the best use of the opportunities available to him and goes in search for more.” Razi Rozario, an artist after getting his handwriting analysed by Unnikrishna says, “I was told that my confidence level in whatever I attempt is one of my positive traits. The negative aspect that was pointed out to me was my tendency to crack a joke at the cost of others. People should go in for an analysis only if they are mentally prepared to correct their flaws.”
