CHENNAI: The Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption on Friday conducted raids at the houses of 14 board members of the Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission and seized ‘incriminating’ documents pertaining to alleged corruption in recruitment process.Based on the three complaints against the board members, a special team conducted raids at 14 places, including the TNPSC chairman R Sellamuthu’s house on West Main Road, Bakkiyathammal Nagar, Padi. “The board members are alleged to have asked for the selected list of the candidates before the official release and thereby tried to collect bribe from the candidates. As per another complaint, they abused the official post and did not allow the authorities to look into allegations of graft in the recruitment of certain candidates who were deemed ineligible for the post of grade II motor vehicle inspectors,” said a senior officer of the DVAC.This apart, the board members allegedly blocked attempts by the TNPSC secretary to prevent corruption in the recruitment of Group-I officials, said the officer. “We have seized documents pertaining to recruitments, such as mark sheets, candidates list, recommendation letters and selected candidates list,” said the officer. The DVAC team also seized a sum of `26 lakh from the house of member secretary G Shanmuga Murugan at Adyar and Rs. 9.60 lakh and 23 India made foreign liquor bottles from the house of another board member. Papers were also seized from the TNPSC office. The team started the raid early in the morning at the houses of M Ramasamy, T Sankaralingam, K Lakshmanan, M Shobini, S Xavier Jesu Raja, K M Ravi, G Shanmuga Murugan, KK Raaja, V Ranthnasabapathy, Perumalsamy, T Kuppusamy, G Selvamani in Chennai and another board member S Panner Selvam’s house in Tiruchy. Apart from booking them under the Prevention of Corruption Act, the senior officer said that cases had also been filed against the Commission members for abusing official powers by not providing papers for inquiry on earlier occasions.
