HYDERABAD: Tollywood producer Yalamanchili Ravi Chand who launched a fight against piracy, was thrashed by his friends following a drunken brawl near a hotel in Banjara Hills locality late on Wednesday night.Police suspect an argument over a new film led to the attack on the producer.Banjara Hills police inspector M Sudershan said Ravi Chand attended a birthday of his friend Teja in Taj Krishna at Banjara Hills, where several persons related to film industry were also present.After the party, Ravi Chand reached the car parking area around 1.30 a.m to drive back home.“At the parking area, he had a discussion with his friend Pradeep over starting a new film and soon they entered into an argument,’’ Sudershan said.As tempers ran high, Pradeep along with his friends beat up Ravi Chand.On information, police shifted him to a corporate hospital at Jubilee Hills where he underwent treatment.According to police, Pradeep is a film publicity manager.The duo reportedly had an argument over financial matters related to the new movie to be produced by Ravi Chand.Police said Pradeep and his friends did not use any weapons.Police suspect there were nearly six persons present when the attack took place but they are not sure how many attacked the producer.Banjara Hills police registered a case under Sections 307 (attempt to murder) and 324 (voluntarily causing hurt) and are investigating.Ravi Chand had sat on an indefinite hunger strike in March against rampant piracy in Tollywood.He also made a controversy by making remarks against noted film producer and director Dasari Narayana Rao.
