HYDERABAD: Boating at Lumbini Park was in much demand as denizens enjoyed an extended holiday from Saturday to the Independence Day on Monday. There was a 20 percent increase in the crowd, according to officials. A total of 20,937 tourists visited the park in the weekend and officials expect the crowd to increase on Monday evening.K Upendra, water fleet unit manager at the park said, “Between June and October, it is off-season for us. Yet, this weekend, the crowd matched up to number of tourists during the peak season.” The boating service catered to 9,037 tourists on Saturday and Sunday and more tourists poured in on Monday as well.In the wake of the recent boat accident in the Hussain Sagar where three tourists were injured, safety measures have been stepped up to manage the rush. “The accident occured because the boatman was suffering from low blood pressure. He had not informed us about it,” said Upendra.
