Reaching out to proper authorities on problems like sudden snarl-ups and disruptions in traffic for immediate remedial action has been made easy in Cuttack with launch of the Traffic Police Helpline here on Friday.
The first helpline of its kind in the State to deal exclusively with traffic- related problems and issues was inaugurated by DGP Prakash Mishra.
A toll-free telephone number 1095 has been issued for lodging complaints or communicating traffic-related problems and issues to the authorities. Staff have been posted round-the-clock to man the helpline service at Modern Police Control Room of Cuttack Traffic Police Station.
The personnel would immediately route the complaints to the police station concerned, PCR vans and traffic mobile staff on duty in the area for appropriate action. All complaints and conversation between the informant and the police on duty at the control room would be recorded.
The system has been implemented on the order of the Orissa High Court which had directed the Traffic Management Committee to provide a complaint registration system through 24-hour toll-free telephone facility. The Department of Telecommunications, Government of India, assigned the toll-free number 1095 for the purpose. The general police helpline with toll-free number 100 for lodging complaints and seeking information on general issues has also been made operational at the Modern Control Room.
Among others, ADG Sanjiv Marik, ADG Pradeep Kapur, Commissioner of Police Sunil Ray, DCP Praveen Kumar and ACP, Traffic, KC Samal were present.
