CHITRADURGA: The fast track court in Chitradurga fixed trial dates for Jai Shankar, who is facing several charges of rape and murder in parts of the district on Friday. Judge Eshwarappa Shankarappa Janthali will take up the hearing of cases against Jai Shankar. The trial will be held via video conferencing from November 21 to December 2, said Jai Shankar’s counsel Sridhar Murthy.Meanwhile, Tamil Nadu police who came with the body warrant of Jai Shankar had to return bare handed as the court asked them to get custody of the accused directly from Parappana Agrahara Central Jail.V Subramaniyam, PSI associated with Sankagiri police station in Salem district, arrived at the fast track court with a request to hand over Jai Shankar, as the district and sessions court in Salem had directed TN police to present Shankar before it on November 2 for trial.Shankar has been involved in 11 rape and murder cases and 8 cases of attempted rape and murder in Krishnagiri, Tirupur, Namakkal and Salem. He had also been involved in the rape and murder of a woman police constable in Salem district. He has murdered five people in Chitradurga district.Shankar was involved in a jail break incident on March 18 from Salem bus stand, when he was being shifted from Coimbatore central jail to the district court at Salem and escaped to Karnataka.He was caught by Karnataka police at Zalki in Bijapur district when he tried to escape to Maharastra.
