Tsunami mock drill held

PUDUCHERRY: Various departments of Puducherry adminstration came together at Pilliachavady village here on Wednesday to carry out a mock tsunami drill. After getting a tsunami alert, the villagers pretended to run for safety. The police, other staff and officials of various departments plunged into action by escorting them to safety and taking the injured to medical relief camp and hospital where they were provided immediate ‘relief’.Meanwhile, overwhelmed by the action, an old lady fainted and a few children were seen crying aloud. The traffic on the ECR was suspended for nearly an hour during the mock drill.The drill was organised under the aegis of the UNESCO Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission and was carried out in 20 countries.
