Seeking to downplay the LIU report that suspended IAS officer Durga Sakthi Nagpal was not present during demolition of a wall of a mosque in Gautam Budh Nagar, a UP minister on Wednesday said inquiry was going on and the truth would come out soon. "An inquiry is being conducted and the truth will come out soon," UP Minister Brahma Shanker Tripathi told reporters in Lucknow.

The Local Intelligence Unit report sent to UP government had claimed that wall of under-construction mosque was demolished in Gautam Budh Nagar in presence of Circle Officer/ SDM Jewar and that Nagpal, SDM (Sadar), was not present at the spot. Both Jewar and Sadar fall under G B Nagar.

28-year-old Nagpal, who led the crackdown on sand mining mafia in her district, was suspended on July 27 ostensibly for ordering demolition of the wall allegedly without following the due process. The District Magistrate, GB Nagar had stated in his report to the state government that Nagpal had not got the wall of any religious place demolished.

The LIU report had said that on July 27, members of the Muslim community were getting a new mosque constructed in Kadalpur village in Raghupura area of G B Nagar. "The administration is saying that the action has been taken as no permission has been sought for construction of the mosque," the report had said. SDM (Jewar) Bachhu Singh, however, had said Kadalpur village does not come under his area.

The LIU had sent its report to the DIG, Intelligence and forwarded it to the DGP and Home department at about 5:10 PM on July 27 apprising them of the situation in the village. On the same day, Nagpal was suspended by Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav citing her lack of foresight in demolishing the wall of a religious place.

Opposition parties, however, have alleged that Nagpal was suspended following pressure from sand mining mafia operating in the state.
