Haj Minister Haji Yakub Qureshi, who once announced reward for Danish cartoonist’s capture, says he was harassed.

Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh Haj Minister Haji Yakub Qureshi, infamous for announcing a bounty on the Danish cartoonist who lampooned Prophet Mohammed, was on Saturday fined for travelling without ticket on a train.

Railway officials said Qureshi and his aides paid Rs 14,000 at Alamnagar station in Lucknow after they were found in the AC-I compartment of the Lucknow Mail.

Qureshi alleged that he had a ticket and was being ''harassed'' as part of a ''political conspiracy''. ''I am writing to the Centre. I will later disclose names of the people harassing me.''

Official said the Minister and his supporters created a ruckus on the trian when they were asked to show their tickets.

However, Qureshi claimed that he and his peon, gunners and aides had tickets. ''I had a ticket and a copy of it too. They did not listen to me as they were there to deliberately harass me,'' he said. The Minister also denied that he was fined for the crime.

While the Minister said he was accompanied by three of his aides, the GRP claimed that he was travelling with at least six supporters.

Qureshi had recently slammed his own Samajwadi Party-led dispensation for ignoring the interests of Muslims.
