KOCHI: Abhinaya Xavier and Aguna Xavier, sisters of Ajeesh Pinku who was killed by the Italian marines, on Thursday moved the High Court seeking `2 crore as compensation.While considering the petition, Justice Harun-Ul-Rashid directed the owners of Italian vessel Enrica Lexie, involved in the incident, to furnish a bank guarantee of Rs 25 lakh before the court against the compensation claims of the victim’s family. The court directed the Deputy Conservator of Cochin Port to detain the vessel at the Cochin Port until the bank guarantee was furnished before the Registrar General of the Kerala High Court. The court had given similar directives while considering a petition filed by Doramma, wife of Valentine alias Jelestine.Advocate V M Shyamkumar, counsel for the petitioners, submitted that the Supreme Court had held that all the High Courts in India had inherent admiralty jurisdiction.
