Pili Vesha, also called Tiger Dance, is a folk dance unique in coastal Karnataka. It is performed during Navratri to honour the Goddess Durga, whose favoured animal is the tiger. Mangalore Dasara is one of the festivals during which a large number of enthusiasts participate in this ritual. It originated in Udupi district of Karnataka. It is initially performed during the Krishna Janmashtami at Mangalore, Udip, Moodabidri, Kundapur and other places. The locals perform this dance with great enthusiasm. Now, on the occasion of Ashtami, the former contestant of Dance Indian Dance Li’l Masters, joined the group of Pili Vesha group in Udupi to match their steps.
Former DID L’il Masters contestant Shreya Acharya has gained expertise in different forms of dance. Shreya, recognised as a multi-talented artist, went viral on social media in the last couple of years when she danced with artists in the middle of the road. On the occasion of Ashtami, Shreya travelled from Mumbai to Udupi to perform the Pili Vesha dance with the locals. She stepped in with the local dance group performing the Pili Vesha dance. She joined the Korangrapadi team, a famous tiger costume team of Udupi. It is noteworthy that this is the same team that acted with Rakshit Shetty in the film Ulidavaru Kandante in 2014.
Dancer Shreya performed enthusiastically on the beats produced by Dholak. She matched her steps with team members of Korangrapadi. The dancer posted a video of her Pili Vesha dance on Instagram. In this, the dancer was seen accompanied by two artists wearing a tiger costume.
Shreya participated in the dancing show DID Little Masters in 2010. She has also co-hosted DID Dance Ke Superkids. Shreya has also started her acting career with the TV series Five Six Seven Eight. It was released in 2022. Shreya Acharya went viral over social media for all her energetic moves at Sri Krishna Janmashtami in Udupi, 2022.
