Kolkata: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's younger brother Kartik Banerjee on Tuesday has denied charges he beat up a security guard at the Alipore Zoo in Kolkata. Rakesh Singh, President of Alipore Zoological Garden Employees' Union, said Amir was assaulted over his action by Trinamool supporters.
"I did not visit the area in the past two months. I was not even aware that Didi (Mamata Banerjee) was going there (Alipur zoo)," Kartik Banerjee told reporters. "If needed I am willing to face a CBI investigation leave alone police. All this is a dirty conspiracy against me by some anti-socials who run the show at the zoo."
A zoo guard, Mohammad Amir, had refused Trinamool supporters' entry to the zoo without tickets when the CM went there to inaugurate a newly built reptile house. TMC leader Derek OBrien has said that Karthik Banerjee was not even present at the zoo and that the accusations are false. He said that the allegations are an attempt to smear Mamata Banerjee's image.
