We followed court orders: TERI stands by decision to promote RK Pachauri
According to sources in TERI, the decision to promote Pachauri was taken by the governing council on the basis of court order.

New Delhi: The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) on Wednesday clarified on the promotion of RK Pachauri, who has been accused of sexual harassment by a former employee.

According to sources in TERI, the decision to promote Pachauri was taken by the governing council on the basis of court order.

They said that the government council went "entirely by the stand of the court in the decision".

This comes even as Pachauri filed a reply in the Delhi High Court, rebutting an application by the complainant girl who alleged that some employees at TERI were made to dilute stand.

In his reply to the Delhi High Court, Pachauri said that the complainant herself had relocated outside India for academic pursuits or other concerns. He termed the original plea by the complainant as "motivated".

Reacting to Pachauri's promotion, the complainant had written an open letter questioning the move while the matter sub-judice in the High Court.

Describing it as "shameless" the complainant said the governing council of the green body promoted a man facing "grave criminal charges" which she would pursue to its "logical conclusion".

"The news of promotion of a man who stands booked on charges of sexual harassment at workplace, stalking and criminal intimidation by country's who's who makes my flesh crawl," she said in the letter released Tuesday.

Pachauri has been appointed executive vice chairman of TERI, a top post newly created for him. The post also gives him executive powers in the organisation.

In February last year, the junior colleague had accused him of sexual harassment following which he had to proceed on leave. He joined work later in July with a court staying the internal committee report that found him guilty of misconduct.

The researcher said that while she and those who supported her were hounded by the organisation, others who kept quiet were "rewarded" with unjust promotions.
