CHENNAI: The malli poos and Kanjeevarams swayed the ballroom of Taj Coromandel on Saturday, pushing aside the LBDs (Little Black Dress) and stilettos. Thanks to the mastercraftman, Nalli Kuppusamy’s daughter Jeysree Ravi for giving a contemporary twist to pattu saris. At a recent fashion show, Jeysree showcased a few  exquisite collections from the house of Sri Palam Silk Sarees. Titled Silkine 12, four collections categorised as concept silks, casual silks, designer silks andMuhurtham silks were showcased. Not only this, but Jeysree also announced that, “Palam is launching six new concepts – Sayana, Maanasa, Corporate, Duo, Vaikarika and Avyakta pattus; all these concepts are also implemented in casual, corporate, designer and Muhurutham saris”.The evening started off with Concept saris, which displayed a range of sayana and maanasa concepts. Sequined embellishments embedded on silk, exclusively woven in contrasting shades and sewed together with patch work. As for the line its self, there was a mixed touch of all the six concepts. And the second on stage was the casual, that showcased a new range of delicate zari works that included thread jacquard and emboss patterns. While the third collection was designer silks, keeping it subtle with no embellishments or jarring colours, the Bridal collections made a perfect finale for the show, heavy zari work and sequins on the pallu. Actress Amala Paul, the show stopper, walked the ramp in a maroon embellished sari. The well-crafted designer blouses complemented the saris. And as for the colour scheme, it consisted of gold, blue, orange, green and red, giving an ethnic touch to the weaves. Keeping in mind the trend and tradition, Jeysree and her craftsmen have well played with designs. Leaving aside the authentic paisley and flower motifs, a lot of patterned and single motif designs embraced the saris. Nalli Kuppusamy felicitated the craftsmen for bringing out exclusive designs on silks for Sri Palam Silk Sarees. For years, it has been a ritual that buying a sari from Nalli brings you good. And this was proved right at the fashion show. From a 16-year-old to a 60-year-old, everyone adorned Nalli silk saris. Now that Palam Silks continues to follow in the footsteps of Nalli, all that everyone wanted to say was, “Can we have one of the Palam saris?”[email protected]
