Justice prevailed through an effective judiciary and a relentlessly persuasive media.

New Delhi: The verdict is out. After seven long, anxious years of waiting and watching, the judiciary has finally delivered its sentence - guilty. Manu Sharma has surrendered and Vikas Yadav and Amardeep Singh Gill are behind bars and Sabrina Lall has been vindicated.

The verdict in the Jessica Lall murder case has reinstated the common man’s faith in the judicial system. As a reader at IBNLive, Mohan says, "Justice prevailed through an effective judiciary and a relentlessly persuasive media that helped forge a potent partnership with responsive citizenry."

Other readers agree with him and this is what they had to say. Says Sangeetha, "Justice at last. The ordinary citizens can now turn to judiciary with full hope for justice."

Darshan agrees with her and says that the truth has finally prevailed over all the odds. "May Jessica's soul rest in peace."

Most of the readers, though delighted at the verdict are upset at the role Ram Jethmalani had to play. "Shame on Jethmalani," says Sangeetha. "The verdict should be a good lesson for lawyers who defend the accused just for money."

Adds Priya, "It is heartening to know that the so called politicians cannot always twist the arm of law as they have been doing so very often."

Other readers say that though Jethmalani's statements about Jessica and his claims of an unknown shooter and the two-gun theory were uncalled for, the verdict has vindicated their stand.

Says a reader Parveen, "Even in these terrible times, when we are often disheartened to see that money and power can buy anything, it is heartening to see that at last truth has won. May Jessica's soul and her parents souls rest in peace."

Parveen adds that though it took a long time and a lot of courage for Sabrina Lall, the verdict is sure to give her peace of mind.

Says Diptiman, "I am very happy that justice was finally delivered - though delayed. Even a high profile lawyer like Jethmalani could not save the culprit. For once the power of politics was taken over by citizens' voice. Hope to see more such winners."

Another reader, Rakesh Jaggi, says, "I am extremely thankful to our justice system and the judiciary in keeping the standards of the court high and providing justice to Jessica's family."

Adds Akanksha, "It's a real victory for the family after such a long delay. I hope people again regain their faith in the Indian judiciary."

Says a reader who goes by the name GRR, "It was a long wait for justice - delayed by money and muscle power. The convicted should be given the maximum punishment without any leniency."

Adds Vineet, "The verdict is really a victory of the system of judiciary in India. It must be seen as a step towards the ultimate goal of justice."

In the end the common man's opinion mattered. Manu Sharma was convicted under Section 302 of the IPC (murder), the Arms Act and for destruction of evidence. Under this the maximum punishment is death penalty or life imprisonment.
