Each season has its demands for certain electronic products like air conditioners, coolers and drinks like coconut water or cold drinks. The prices of drinking and coconut water increase during summer. As per reports, the price of coconut water is high in coconut plantation towns as well. In such a situation, a man in Mundgod village of Uttara Kannada district is selling coconut water at less than half the price of the market. He is selling coconut water in the Tibetan Colony of Mundgod village. Durgappa, a man from Indore village in Uttara Kannada, has been in the business of selling coconut water for the last 15 years. He sells coconut water for Rs 20. The maximum price is Rs 25. He sells drinking water for only one hour till 8-9 in the morning. After this, he leaves for the garden to pluck coconuts. He sells more than 200 coconuts a day. He claims that he earns Rs 4000 to 5000 daily from the coconut water business.
While talking to Local18, Durgappa answers the query of selling coconut water at such a low rate. He says that there is a lack of tree-climbing experts in the area, hence there is a shortage of coconut water in the colony. There are plenty of trees in the Tibetan colony of Mundagodu village but none to pluck them. In such a situation, Durgappa would go around the colony at 6 in the morning, pluck the coconuts from their trees and sell them throughout the day.
The demand for coconut water soars during the summer season. In March, the price of coconut water in Karnataka was Rs 35. Today, it must be two times higher. While talking to Local18, the coconut seller Sayyed Mulla said that every year from March the demand and sale of coconut water increased. The customers started flocking in February itself. He claimed that more people are buying tender coconut this year than last year.
