THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The protest march taken out by the Left youth organisations to the Assembly and district collectorates turned violent in seven districts on Wednesday. Police and the protestors fought each other in almost all places which resulted in stone-pelting and lathi-charge. Police officers, including an ASP, a DySP and a CI and many protestors were injured in the street fight. The towns of Kasargod, Kannur, Malappuram, Palakkad, Kottayam, Alappuzha and Thiruvananthapuram witnessed fight between the police and the youth of the Left organisations. Police had to use water cannon against protestors here when they tried to barge into the Assembly campus after breaking the police barricade. Express lensman B P Deepu’s camera was damaged in the flow of water. Police fired grenades when they could not resist the protestors who tried to enter the Assembly campus. Thirteen activists, including DYFI state treasurer K S Sunil Kumar, were injured in clashes with the police and had been admitted to the Medical College Hospital here. Nine police personnel, including a DySP, CI and seven policemen and seven DYFI activists suffered injuries in Kottayam. The window panes of the office of a prominent media house were shattered in the stone-pelting. In Kannur, the activists entered the collectorate and damaged the glass door and windows at the main entrance. Sagar, cameraman of a television news channel, was admitted to a private hospital after he suffered injuries in the protest by the activists. In Kasargod, the situation worsened after DYFI district vice-president K Raveendran was injured in the lathi-charge. Police had to fire 12 rounds of grenade. 15 DYFI activists and 12 police personnel, including ASP T K Shibu, wereinjured.
