Rajasthan Tragedy: 3 Sisters, 2 of Them Pregnant Die by Suicide Along With 2 Kids Over Dowry Harassment by In-laws
A case has been registered against the husbands and in-laws of the victims

In a tragic incident of suicide that rocked the nation, the bodies of five members of a family, including a newborn baby, were found in a well in the Dudu area of Rajasthan on Saturday. Two of the women were pregnant at the time of death.

According to a report by NDTV, the deceased were identified as sisters Kali Devi (27), Mamta Meena (23), and Kamlesh Meena (20). The other two bodies have been identified as a four-year-old boy namely Harshit, and a 20-day-old infant.

The three sisters were married to three brothers from the same family in Chapiya village of Dudu Jaipur district. They had left home on the pretext of going to a market on May 25, the police said.

After they failed to return home, their family members put up missing posters at different locations and lodged a missing complaint with the police, they said.

Talking to NDTV, the family members of the deceased sisters alleged that their in-laws would regularly harass them for dowry and even beat them up.

“My sisters were regularly beaten and harassed for dowry. When they went missing on May 25, we ran from pillar to post to find them. We registered FIRs at the local police station, with the women’s helpline, and also with the national commission for women but received very little help,” their cousin Hemraj Meena was quoted telling NDTV.

Although no suicide note was retrieved at the site of the crime, their family members shared a WhatsApp status of the youngest sister Kamlesh where she was found citing the reason of her suicide and also blaming her in-laws who she alleged had forced her to take this step.

A case has been registered against the husbands and in-laws of the victims. A case of dowry death will now be added to the original FIR, police said. The police are interrogating the three husbands, the mother-in-law, and other family members in connection with the deaths.
