Azelaic Acid To Chemical Peels, Cosmetologist Recommends Methods To Treat Hyperpigmentation
Chemical peel uses acids at larger concentrations to treat the desired area of skin.

Hyperpigmentation is a term that determines different types of skin discolouration. Skin expert and cosmetologist Dr Jatin Mittal talked about this problem in an interaction with News18 Hindi. He said that hyperpigmentation implies freckles. It can cause the patches of the skin to become darker in comparison to the surrounding skin. This condition occurs when the skin produces excess melanin, the pigment which gives the skin its colour.

Dr Mittal said that the instances of freckles commonly occur in women and increase with increasing age. As per the doctor, skin-lightening creams can be used to treat this problem. These creams include azelaic acid, corticosteroids and retinoids such as tretinoin and vitamin C serum. These creams, however, should not be taken without the doctor’s advice. Cosmetic procedures like laser therapy, intense pulsed light and consuming chemical pills are also effective treatments.

1. Azelaic acid- Azelaic acid has antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties. This makes it effective in the treatment of skin conditions like acne and rosacea.

2. Corticosteroids- Corticosteroids ease swelling, and irritation and also lower the inflammation in the human body.

3. Retinoids- Retinoids comprise all the Vitamin A-based products that can be used on the skin.

4. Tretinoin- Tretinoin, a type of Retinoid, prevents pores from clogging, as well as reduces and prevents acne scars as well.

5. Vitamin C serum- There are many health benefits to using the Vitamin C serum on the skin. It hydrates the skin, reduces redness, promotes collagen production, etc.

Cosmetic Procedures

1. Laser Therapy- Laser therapy helps in resurfacing a younger and healthier layer of the skin. This procedure makes the new skin layer firmer and smoother.

2. Intense pulsed light- This therapy is a way to improve the colour and texture of your skin without surgery. This therapy is likely to provide good results with minimum side effects.

3. Chemical peels- Chemical peel uses acids at larger concentrations to treat the desired area of skin. They reduce the appearance of hyperpigmentation by removing the top layer of the skin. Deeper versions of chemical peels may also penetrate the middle layer of the skin.
