Besides celebrating its 75th edition, the one other thing significant about this year's Golden Globes Awards was the display of unity and solidarity by Hollywood stars who backed the black-fashion initiative and showed up at the award's red carpet in black outfits to extend their support to the Time's Up movement. The all-black dress code at the Golden Globes red carpet — adhered to by almost each and every celebrity including the men and women — was a physical manifestation of solidarity in an extraordinary manner by stars who wanted to raise their voice and mark their protest against sexual harassment and gender discrimination that has plagued not just Hollywood but other industries too for decades at length.
And now, to further the cause, keep the momentum of the Time's Up initiative going and to support the women who have long suffered harassment and abuse by powerful men, in a recent decision taken by Conde Nast, the organisation has decided to auction a few 'dresses and tuxedos worn by various nominees, presenters, and attendees at the 75th Annual Golden Globe Awards'. The proceeds of the auction shall go to the Time's Up legal defense fund, Conde Nast mentioned in its press release.
In the recent press release issued by Conde Nast, Anna Wintour, Artistic Director at Conde Nast and Editor-In-Chief of Vogue, stated, "At Conde Nast, we've always believed in the importance of swift action to support meaningful social change. Through this auction powered by eBay, and harnessing the compelling pull of both fashion and activism, we're hopeful that the black dresses worn at this year's historic Golden Globe Awards will raise funds for the TIME’S UP initiative, and serve to support the stories and voices of those who have been victims of sexual misconduct."
The Time's Up legal defense fund is an institution that provides legal and public relations assistance to victims of sexual misconduct in the workplace.
Donated by various distinguished designers including Zac Posen, Vera Wang, Oscar de la Renta, Stella McCartney, Saint Laurent, Marc Jacobs, Ronald Van Den Kemp, Armani, Prabal Gurung, Balenciaga, Givenchy, Calvin Klein, Ralph & Russo, Ralph Lauren among others, the ‘black’ outfits that will be put on auction are the ones sported by actresses Reese Witherspoon, Meryl Streep, Elisabeth Moss, Tracee Ellis Ross, Emma Watson, Jude Law among others stars at the Golden Globes red carpet.
The #TimesUp was founded earlier this year in response to the Harvey Weinstein revelations and subsequent calling out of other alleged sexual predators that shook not just Hollywood but global artistes and the masses to the core.
