In a significant victory to the Malayalam cinema, the industry is on the verge of getting close to Rs 1,000 crore at the box office with its latest box-office releases. The industry has recorded an impressive collection of Rs 985 crore from January to April. It is expected to surpass the Rs 1000 crore mark with upcoming films like Turbo and Guruvayoor Ambalanadayil. Enlisted here are 8 films that helped the Malayalam cinema reach the Rs 1,000 crore mark.
1. Manjummel Boys (February 22, 2024)- Written and directed by Chidambaram, Manjummel Boys features Soubin Shahir, Sreenath Bhasi, Ganapathi and others. It reportedly earned more than Rs 250 crore at the box office and is currently streaming on Disney+Hotstar.
2. Aavesham (April 11, 2024)- Written and directed by Jithu Madhavan, this movie starred Fahadh Faasil, Sajin Gopu and others in the key roles. As per the reports, this film has collected Rs 151.95 crore and is now streaming on Amazon Prime.
3. The Goat Life (March 28, 2024)- Blessy directed The Goat Life, titled Aadujeevitham in Malayalam and based on the author Benyamin’s bestselling novel of the same name. Headlined by Prithviraj Sukumaran, this film also starred Kr Gokul, Amala Paul, Shobha Mohan and others in important roles. It has collected over Rs 155 crore till date.
4. Premalu (February 9, 2024)- Girish AD directed Premalu and wrote the script as well along with Kiran Josey. Starring actors Naslen, Mamitha Baiju and others, it garnered Rs 136 crore worldwide. It is currently streaming on the Disney+Hotstar.
5. Bramayugam (February 15, 2024)- Directed by Rahul Sadasivan, Bramayugam boasted a stellar star cast starring the actors Mammootty, Arjun Ashokan and others. Adding Indian and overseas gross, the total collection of this film stands at Rs 58.96 crore at the worldwide box office.
6. Varshangalkku Shesham (April 11, 2024)- Written and directed by Vineeth Sreenivasan, it starred Pranav Mohanlal, Kalyani Priyadarshan and others. It has secured a position in the Top 5 Highest Grossers of 2024 with a worldwide total collection of Rs 81.88 crore.
7. Anweshippin Kandethum (February 9, 2024)- Directed by debutante Darwin Kuriakose, this movie features Tovino Thomas, Siddique and others. It earned a gross collection of Rs 40 crore worldwide.
8. Abraham Ozler (January 11, 2024)- Directed by Midhun Manuel Thomas, Abraham Ozler stars Jayaram, Jagadish and others in pivotal roles. It earned around Rs 40.53 crore worldwide.
