The Indian Films and Television Directors Association today asked censor board chief Pahlaj Nihalani to apologize after he held Anurag Kashyap culpable of taking money from the AAP to make his film ‘Udta Punjab’. The Association, which was led by president Ashoke Pandit, demanded the apology after Nihalani stated in an interview that Kashyap could have taken money from the Aam Aadmi Party to show Punjab in poor light through his film.
Megastar Amitabh Bachchan too broke his silence on 'Udta Punjab' censorship row.
At a press conference for his forthcoming film 'TE3N', the 73-year-old actor was asked to comment on the controversy over 'Udta Punjab' -- a movie on the festering problem of drugs in Punjab.
“Don’t kill creativity. Killing creativity is like killing us," he said.
Veteran lyricist Javed Akhtar also shared his views on the whole controversy. “Society is mature enough to decide what’s wrong and right for people. Nine people and one chairman of the board can’t be the guardians of morality and aesthetics to billions of people. That’s absurd. Films should have more categories. But what does 89 cuts to a film mean? It means killing the film and telling the maker indirectly that they shouldn’t be releasing it."
The raging controversy over 'Udta Punjab' took a dramatic turn on Wednesday when censor board chief suggested that Anurag Kashyap may have made the movie after taking money from the AAP, sparking a stinging reaction from Bollywood and AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal.
