Anne Hathaway Compares The Idea Of You With The Princess Diaries Premiere: 'It Felt So Similar'
Anne Hathaway starrer The Idea of You will make its digital premiere on May 2, 2024.

All set for the digital release of her latest film, The Idea of You, on Amazon Prime Video, Anne Hathaway recently went down memory lane and recalled her days during The Princess Diaries shoot. Hathaway played Mia Thermopolis in the first Princess Diaries movie in 2001 and reprised her role again in 2004 with The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement. While it has been over two decades since the film premiered, it remains “very special” for the actress. Recalling the premiere of her 2001 film, Anne Hathaway got emotional, comparing it with her latest project.

In a conversation with The Hollywood Reporter, she said, “I was in a film when I was 17 years old called ‘The Princess Diaries.’ It came out when I was 18, and the premiere of the movie felt so much like the premiere for this one.”

Getting overwhelmed with the feeling, Anne stopped to take a breath as she said, “Oh God, don’t cry again. Don’t do it!”

Further, she spoke about the love that she received from the audience during her first premiere and added, “And when I was 18 years old, it was my first premiere, so I just thought that was the way it works, and it can go so well, but that level of instant audience love and embracing of it, and feeling that audience satisfaction, you don’t get that every single time.”

Anne Hathaway also compared both of her films and explained that some movies are darker and more challenging, but they are made to feel everyone loves them. “I hadn’t had that feeling quite in that same way since ‘The Princess Diaries. And now I’m 41, and I know how to appreciate it,” Hathaway concluded.

The Princess Diaries 3

While it has been almost 20 years since the second Princess Diaries movie came out, fans have been waiting for the third installment. In 2022, Disney confirmed the film, leading to multiple reports surrounding the production trickling out ever since.

While confirmation is yet to be received about whether Anne Hathaway will return as Mia, the latest update comes as positive news from the actress herself. Expressing optimism about the project, Hathaway indicated that developments are underway. “We’re in a good place. That’s all I can say. There’s nothing to announce yet. But we’re in a good place,” she said in a V magazine interview.
