Over the years, Ayushmann Khurrana has built a reputation for choosing unique, content-driven comedies such as Vicky Donor, Shubh Mangal Savadhan, Bala, AndhaDhun, Dream Girl, and Dum Laga Ke Haisha. Ayushmann is now preparing for his first collaboration with Karan Johar-led Dharma Production in 2024. His upcoming project, following Dream Girl 2, will be produced by Karan Johar and Guneet Monga.
The film, yet to be named, will be directed by Aakash Kaushik and is expected to be a unique spy comedy. Sources close to the project told entertainment portal PinkVilla, “Karan and Guneet have been very excited about this subject as the script has shaped up well with a perfect blend of espionage elements with comedy. The script tick marks all the boxes of a commercial film as it has scale, thrill, and action with a lot of comedy, and the trio of Karan, Guneet, and Aakash feel that Ayushmann Khurrana fits the character to the T.”
This film promises to redefine the spy genre within Hindi cinema and will stand out as a quintessential Ayushmann Khurrana film. “The film goes on floors in a couple of months and the official announcement with title is around the corner. The makers are in advanced stages of discussion with Sara Ali Khan to play the female lead,” added the source.
Aakash Kaushik, known for his work in comedy as a writer, is poised to make his directorial debut with this spy comedy. Preparations for the shoot are in full swing, with production scheduled to begin by June 2024. The movie is a joint venture between Dharma Productions and Sikhya Entertainment.
Ayushmann Khurrana was last seen in the film Dream Girl 2, the sequel to his 2019 superhit Dream Girl. It is directed by Raaj Shaandilyaa and starred Ayushmann Khurrana in dual roles. The rest of the cast included Ananya Pandey, who was the female lead, Annu Kapoor, Paresh Rawal, Manjot Singh, Rajpal Yadav and more. It is produced by Ekta Kapoor and Shobha Kapoor under the banner of Balaji Motion Pictures. The film was released on August 25, 2023.
