The Cannes Film Festival has been a monumental event for Indians this year. From Aishwarya Rai’s look to Nancy Tyagi’s self-stitched outfits and several Indian influencers and actors shining on the red carpet, India has been all over the event and how! Adding to the glory, most recently, is Payal Kapadia’s All We Imagine as Light’s groundbreaking victory. Apart from the drama, actress Anusuya Sengupta, starring in Bulgarian director Konstantin Bojanov’s Hindi-language film The Shameless, made history by winning the Best Actress award in the Un Certain Regard category. This accomplishment is extra special as she has now become the first Indian actor to ever receive this prestigious accolade.
While everybody has been basking in the glory, actress Priyanka Chopra Jonas took to social media to express her joy and pride over Indian talents’ historic win. In her latest Instagram story, she wrote, “It’s a moment for Indian cinema at Festival De Cannes,” along with a photograph of the team behind All We Imagine as Light. The drama secured the Grand Prix at the Cannes Film Festival.
In another one of her stories, Chopra shared a video clip of Anusuya Sengupta’s standout moments from the film Shameless. Its caption read, “Congratulations on your incredible performance and the history you’ve created! Onwards and upwards.”
In addition to these, Priyanka also congratulated Chidananda S Naik, a student from the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), Pune. Naik’s short film Sunflowers Were the First Ones to Know won the La Cinéf Award for Best Short film. “Congratulations Chidananda S Naik, so well deserved,” she wrote.
The Cannes Film Festival was held from May 14 to May 25 this year.
Apart from Priyanka Chopra, actor Ranveer Singh has shared stories and congratulated Payal Kapadia’s team on the Cannes win. Author-lyricist Javed Akhtar has also sent a dinner invite for the team.
