Vikramaditya Motwane’s latest film CTRL, starring Ananya Panday, recently premiered on Netflix and has been creating buzz for its distinctive concept. In a recent interview, the director discussed the potential for a sequel and shared that the film’s original draft featured a different ending. He initially intended for Nella, Ananya’s character, to seek revenge, but ultimately felt it didn’t fit the narrative.
Speaking with Hindustan Times, Motwane expressed uncertainty about continuing the story, noting that Nella’s journey is a cautionary tale rather than one suited for a revenge arc. He emphasised that such a shift would feel disconnected from the story’s core and might not resonate with audiences.
Speaking about making a sequel, the filmmaker said, “Maybe. I don’t know. I don’t buy into a sequel. I think in Nella’s case, she’s doomed. She’s gone down that rabbit hole again.”
Vikramaditya Motwane initially considered a different ending for CTRL, where Nella seeks revenge. However, given the difficult circumstances Nella faced, he and his team had to decide whether to maintain the screenlife format or alter the ending. Motwane realized that changing the ending wouldn’t align with the story and might not resonate with viewers. They quickly dropped the idea and stuck with what felt right for the plot. Despite the challenges, Motwane shared that he thoroughly enjoyed the creative process.
Speaking about bringing CTRL to life, the filmmaker said, “It took a lot of research. A lot of hours of watching, a lot of hours wasted watching, on the internet about influencers, comments, how things work. I think the best thing I’ve done is to get Sumukhi Suresh to write the dialogues and Ananya Panday to star in it, because they’re more in it than I am. It was a very collaborative effort. Knowing that I don’t want to be the one in his 40s telling 20-year-olds how to work the internet. I don’t know it, so I’m going to get (the right) people.”
After Ananya Panday starrer CTRL, Vikramaditya Motwane will be releasing, Indi(r)a’s Emergency and prison drama Black Warrant.
