Director Imtiaz Ali said that female actors in the Indian film industry work harder than anyone else, often dealing with tougher situations. Talking about Deepika Padukone, he praised her for getting ready faster than her co-stars and being great at her job. Imtiaz first worked with Deepika in Love Aaj Kal, then in Cocktail, which was a big turning point in her career. The movie was directed by Homi Adajania and written by Imtiaz. They worked together again in the 2015 hit Tamasha, alongside Ranbir Kapoor.
“Deepika is a wonderful actor to work with. I feel so comfortable when she is on set. She is the easiest to work with, she gets ready the fastest, much before any co-actor,” Imtiaz said in a video shared by Every Friday Movie. He also mentioned that she quickly gets into action, even for simple shots, and called her an “amazing” artist.
Imtiaz added that no one in the country works as hard as the women in the film industry. “I am talking about the so called ‘heroines’, the glamour girls of the Hindi film industry. They have to get on set many hours before anyone else so that they can start work on their looks, costumes; they shoot in uncomfortable shoots, wear short clothes in cold weather, sometimes get little sleep., They work the hardest in the film industry,” he said.
Deepika and Imtiaz haven’t worked together since Tamasha in 2015, but both have found success with their recent projects. Deepika’s big hits include Pathaan, Jawan, and Kalki 2898 AD, while Imtiaz received praise for the Netflix film Amar Singh Chamkila. Deepika will next be seen in Singham Again, releasing this Diwali.
On the personal front, Deepika Padukone recently welcomed a daughter with actor-husband Ranveer Singh. The proud parents took to Instagram to share the big news soon after she delivered at a south Mumbai hospital.
