Despite receiving mixed reviews, Devara: Part 1, starring Jr NTR and Janhvi Kapoor, is steadily approaching the Rs 500 crore mark in global box office earnings. Buoyed by the film’s success, director Koratala Siva and his team have already initiated discussions about the sequel, Devara: Part 2. In a recent interview, Siva acknowledged the weight of this achievement and expressed his dedication to ensuring the sequel’s success.
In an interaction with Zoom, the director was asked about the possibility of cameo appearances in the sequel. He responded that while he’s not particularly interested in cameos, he does plan to bring in some well-known names from the film industry for significant roles. “I won’t say cameos also. They are very important characters in the film, and we are going to unveil them very soon, character by character,” added Siva.
Further, sharing that he would like to see Ranveer Singh or Ranbir Kapoor in Devara’s sequel, Siva said, “Actually, I have my own wish list. I don’t know whether that can happen or not. To be very honest, I would love to see Ranveer Singh or Ranbir Kapoor in the world of Devara. I won’t take too many names from the Telugu or Tamil industries. If I reveal some names there will be too much of assumptions and speculations.”
Meanwhile, in another interview, Siva talked about his decision to cast Janhvi Kapoor, who made her Telegu cinema debut with Devara. While speaking to India Today, he remarked that the actress belonged to the South and added, “I don’t believe in this North and South thing. We people here believe that Janhvi belongs to the South. Because people here believe that Sridevi ma’am is (one of) our own. So, for us, even here in villages, people feel that Janhvi is their own daughter. And we have been waiting for her for a long time. And we strongly believe that Jr NTR and Janhvi make a very good pair.”
When asked about Janhvi’s limited screen time in the action drama, Siva mentioned that her character would unfold in the sequel. “She can bring a lot of freshness into the film and have multiple dimensions in her character, which will be unfolded in part two. There is a lot of drama for her and surprising twists and turns that can happen with her character. So you will have to wait and watch part 2 to see more of Janhvi,” added the director.
Devara: Part 1, starring Jr NTR, Janhvi Kapoor, Saif Ali Khan and Prakash Raj, was released on September 27. To date, the film has minted over Rs 250 crore at the domestic box office in all languages combined.
