Malayalam music director Ramesh Narayan faced backlash on social media over allegedly insulting actor Asif Ali at an event. According to reports, Ramesh Narayan refused to take an award from Asif Ali at the trailer launch of the Malayalam anthology series, Manoranthangal. He has now reverted back to the controversy against him, claiming that it was never his intention to insult and discriminate against Asif Ali. Director Nadirsha also reacted to the controversy by indirectly taking a jibe at him. He wrote on Facebook that music sense is not enough, common sense is also needed.
Ramesh Narayan faced a huge criticism for his behaviour towards Asif Ali. The video that has been posted online, gave rise to the controversy. It has been revealed that, after receiving the award from Asif Ali, Ramesh Narayan handed over the memento to Jayaraj. It may have been an expression of gratitude towards the director. According to Jayaraj, Asif did not feel insulted, and Ramesh is not a person who would behave like this.
Ramesh Narayan’s response was that, although it is correct that Asif was not noticed, he was not insulted or discriminated against. According to reports, Ramesh Narayan claimed that he never intended to insult the actor. Ramesh Narayan also claimed that he was not called on the stage, though everyone who worked for the anthology was invited and given awards. The music director also added that Aswathy, the daughter of MT Vasudevan Nair, made all the arrangements to hand over the award to him after realising that he was not invited on stage. The anchor called him by the name, Santhosh Narayanan.
He again mentioned that he received the award from Asif Ali, but wanted Jayaraj to join as well, as he was the director of the film. By the time Jayaraj reached near him, Asif had gone back to his own seat, according to Ramesh.
Ramesh Narayan also claimed that there is a problem when netizens attack without understanding the facts.
