Elton John: Never Too Late explores John's Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour, documenting personal moments.

In the new documentary Elton John: Never Too Late, the popular British singer-songwriter and pianist, Elton John opens up about his family and how they feel about each other. While his love story and friendships are dealt with in detail in his documentary, it is his relationship with his children, Zachary and Elijah, that comes as a heartwarming surprise for his fans. The legendary singer, in the documentary, has reportedly talked about his children’s biggest concerns as he grows older. The 77-year-old music icon shares that his sons, Zachary, 13 and Elijah, 11, are deeply troubled by thoughts of his mortality.

“They think about my mortality. They worry about my mortality,” John reportedly said in the documentary that premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) on September 6. He pointed out that while his husband, David Furnish is less of a concern for the boys, their anxieties are focused on him.

John explained, “Not so much David, but me,” referring to his partner and the boys’ other father. Despite their worries, John acknowledged their desire for him to be around indefinitely. “They love their daddy, so they want me to be around forever, and I would love to be around forever,” he added, reports People.

However, John remains grounded about his future. He admits he might not be present for some of his children’s significant milestones. “I want to see them have children and get married. I don’t think I’m going to be around for that. Who knows? You never know,” he reflected.

John also stressed the importance of making the most of their time together. “So that’s why I want to use the best time — the best of my time — while I’m around. Time together is so wonderful and so precious,” Elton reportedly added.

Directed by R.J. Cutler and Furnish, Elton John: Never Too Late deals with John’s Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour, incorporating personal moments and performance footage.

The film, co-produced with Disney+ and Rocket Pictures, will stream on Disney+ starting December 13, following its TIFF debut. The Toronto International Film Festival runs from September 5 to 15.
