Priyanka Chopra is one of the most successful actresses of Bollywood in recent times. From a seductress in ‘Aitraaz’ to the portrayal of a legendary boxer in ‘Mary Kom’, PC has won hearts all over the world time and again. This National Award winning actress is not just confined within the boundaries of Indian entertainment industry but is showing-off her talent overseas as well.
Here are five times when Priyanka Chopra made us realize that she is more than just a ‘desi girl’.
1) When she topped the musical charts from Mumbai to L.A
Priyanka Chopra is the first Bollywood star to be signed by any international entertainment and agency and produce album under their label. Her first single ‘In My City’ debuted in a TV spot for NFL Network’s ‘Thursday Night Football’. A shortened version of the song was used to open each show of that season. She had also collaborated with music stars Sam Watters, Matthew Koma, Jay Sean andWill.I.Am and Pitbull. Priyanka even lent her voice for a music video of John Lennon’s ‘Imagine’. Now calling her a ‘small town girl’ can make you fell small, right?

2) When our ‘desi girl’ got ‘videshi’ nominations
After releasing her first single, she received her first international music nomination at World Music Awards. She was nominated for Best Female artist, Best Song and Best Video. She received the Trailblazer Award for becoming the first Bollywood actor to win a major record deal in the USA. No other lead actress in the Bollywood can flaunt national as well as international fame as much as she can. This woman is truly the face of modern Indian woman for the world.

3) When she lent her hand to help the world
Priyanka is not just a pretty face but also has a caring heart. She is known for her philanthropic work and has served as a UNICEF goodwill Ambassador for Child Rights back in 2010. PC has always been an active social worker and has promoted various causes like environment, education and gender issues and equality for all, at all events. She has used her global image and fame to promote the concept of global- citizenship, being a real example herself.

4) When she penned columns for International dailies
Piggy Chops is an example of Beauty with Brains. This leading lady of Bollywood is an active columnist for Elle.com. She has written hard hitting and factual articles on gender discrimination and women empowerment in international dailies like The Guardian and The New York Times. While, many celebrities in India shy away from talking about sensitive topics, our girl has been quite upfront about them. Here goes our ‘desi’ girl power in international realms.

5) When she introduced herself as Alex Parrish in the trailer of 'Quantico'
“My name is Alex Parrish, protecting our country had always been my dream". In the opening scene of Abc’s new show ‘Quantico’, Priyanka sounds totally different in her American accent proving that now she has completely moulded herself according to her international projects. PC is the first Bollywood star to play a protagonist in an international television project. Apart from her transformation for the role, the fact that she is playing a full fledged American citizen and not some NRI or immigrant, makes 'Quantico' much more unique. Priyanka is breaking the walls for actresses all around the world by featuring in an action/drama genre.
The series will premier this coming fall, and we are eagerly waiting to see our desi girl save the American soil as an FBI trainee.
