Zarina Wahab is one of the critically acclaimed actresses in Bollywood and has established her acting mettle with the films Mera Damad, Jazbaat, etc. She is celebrating her 65th birthday today, July 17. Zarina is currently at the pinnacle of her career. Despite the fame, reportedly, she had to overcome some setbacks in the initial stages. According to the reports, the Mera Damad actress had gone to the late actor Raj Kapoor but he rejected the moment he saw her. Charlie Chaplin of Indian cinema, as Raj Kapoor was known, also reportedly told the actress that she would never be able to become a leading lady in films. According to the reports, the Mera Damad actress was devastated after this insult.
In an interview with Amar Ujala, Zarina Wahab has refuted these reports. Setting the record straight, the veteran actress said that this information on the internet is wrong. According to her, when she was studying at the Film and Television Institute of India, Pune, Raj Kapoor often used to reach there to meet singer and actor Shailendra Singh. Shailendra Singh was trying to become an actor and during this time he had also rendered vocals to songs filmed by Rishi Kapoor in Raj Kapoor’s film Bobby. Zarina said that one day, Raj Kapoor saw her and said that you looked like a sweeper. The Mera Damad actress recalled asking him why was he saying this.
Raj Kapoor replied that he refers to the actress Zeenat Aman with the same name and sees an image of the same actress in her. Zarina Wahab said that this was a big compliment for her and people twisted and presented it as something else.
