We're just a day away from celebrating the best of television and film in the year 2018 with the Golden Globe Awards 2019. Each year, 93 members of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association honour both domestic and foreign films and television show, but this year we have plenty to be excited about.

With films like A Star is Born and Vice dominating the nominations and superhero films Back Panther making it to the list for the first time, the excitement is at its peak. Also, this year, Globe will announce its first lifetime achievement award in the television category. But before the excitement takes over, here's everything you need to know about Golden Globe Awards 2019:

The masters of the ceremony

This year, Killing Eve’s Sandra Oh and Brooklyn Nine-Nine star Andy Samberg, who have previously been winners of the Golden Globe award, will be the masters of the ceremony.

Oh hosting Golden Globe is another feather in her cap as she becomes the first Asian woman ever to host the ceremony.

The nominations

Going by the early trends, it is expected that the winner of the top category of Best Picture - Drama could be Bradley Cooper's A Star Is Born, given the warm response it got at the Toronto International Film Festival. Not far behind is Marvel's Black Panther, which turned out to be the most searched film of 2018 giving a remarkable $1.5 billion collection at the box office. These two are joined by Spike Lee's BlacKkKlansman, Rami Malek starrer Bohemian Rhapsody and Barry Jenkins' James Baldwin novel adaptation, Beale Street Could Talk.

Best Picture - Musical or Comedy has a varied nominations list with films like Green Book, Vice, Crazy Rich Asians, Mary Poppins Returns and Favourite. Crazy Rich Asians had been winning hearts even before it's official release because of its Asian cast, and portrayal of Asians in mainstream Hollywood. Likewise, Christian Bale's Vice, the biographical drama about former US vice president Dick Cheney, has high stakes in the race with a total of six Golden Globe nominations, including best picture, best director for Adam McKay and best actor-musical or comedy for Bale.

In the television space, FX's The Americans, Amazon's The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel and The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story scored big at the nominations.

With as many as 10 nominations, FX's two shows -- spy drama The Americans and Versace, the network is giving a tough competition to HBO and Amazon, which tied with nine nods. On the other hand, streaming giant Netflix secured eight nominations.

Sandra Oh has secured a nomination in the best drama actress category.

Given the popularity of Julia Roberts and reviews, Homecoming could be one of the majors in the winners. In the meantime, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, which was much applauded by the critics and audiences alike, stand ahead in the Best Television Series - Musical or Comedy list.

The presenters

We already know that Jessica Chastain and Sam Rockwell will present awards at the 2019 Golden Globes. Rockwell held the trophy in 2018 for his role in Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri. This year, he is nominated for essaying the role of George W. Bush in Vice. Chastain took home a Golden Globe in 2013 for her role in Zero Dark Thirty.

As per reports, other celebrity presenters include Halle Berry, Sterling K. Brown, Jamie Lee Curtis, Idris Elba, Taraji P. Henson, Jim Parsons, Gary Oldman, and Octavia Spencer. Emily Blunt, Olivia Colman, Lady Gaga, Richard Gere and Nicole Kidman who have been previously nominated under different categories will present the award to the winners at the ceremony.

Actors like Lupita Nyong’o, Dick Van Dyke, Megan Mullally and Bradley Cooper will also present awards.

Golden Globes’ lifetime achievement award 2019

This year, Jeff Bridges will be honoured at the 76th Golden Globes ceremony with the lifetime achievement award.

Golden Globe sets another milestone by giving away their first lifetime achievement award in the television category. The honour will be laid upon Carol Burnett, who is is the five-time recipient of Golden Globes and also the first woman to host a variety sketch show, The Carol Burnett Show.

When and where to watch Golden Globe Awards 2019

The awards ceremony will be held at the Beverly Hilton Hotel and will air on NBC starting at 6:30 AM IST. It can also be viewed live on Sling TV, Hulu Live TV and YouTube TV.
