Jigra Box Office Collection Day 5: Alia Bhatt Starrer Eyes Rs 20-Crore Target
Directed by Vasan Bala, Jigra slowed down further on Day 5, minting a total of Rs 1.60 crore at the box office.

Jigra Box Office Collection Day 5: Alia Bhatt’s latest release Jigra continues to witness a decline in its box office numbers on the fifth day of its release. Directed by Vasan Bala, the film slowed down further on Tuesday, October 15, minting a total of Rs 1.60 crore, as per the early estimates. This brings the total earnings of Jigra to Rs 19.85 crore since its arrival in theatres on October 11.

Jigra also marked the lowest opening for an Alia Bhatt-led film in a decade, earning Rs 4.55 crore as per Sacnilk. While on the second day, it managed to collect Rs 6.55 crore, the third day came with a little disappointment as the gross income for the day could not cross the Rs 5.5 crore mark.

Apart from Alia Bhatt, Jigra also stars Vedang Raina and Manoj Pahwa in pivotal roles. The escape thriller, jointly produced by Alia and her sister Shaheen Bhatt’s Eternal Sunshine Productions and Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions, revolves around Satya, a young woman who can go to any extent to save her brother Ankur Anand. Ankur has been falsely imprisoned in a foreign jail and is sentenced to death.

Despite impressive performances and its intriguing premise, Jigra failed to make a mark and there are multiple reasons for the same. Industry analysts believe that the primary factor that contributed to the lukewarm response by the audience has to be negative sentiments circulating on social media.

The film was recently embroiled in controversies after Divya Khosla Kumar accused Alia Bhatt of manipulating the box office numbers. The producer and actress dropped a post on her Instagram stories, claiming Alia purchased tickets to inflate earnings. In her post, she attached a photo of an empty theatre, questioning the legitimacy of the reported numbers. She hinted that the film’s collection in the initial days was not natural.

Besides, Jigra also clashed with Rajkummar Rao and Triptii Dimri’s Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video on October 11. Going by the box-office numbers, Raaj Shaandilyaa’s comedy film has outperformed Vasan Bala’s latest flick, collecting Rs 23.3 crore in 5 days.

Apart from Rajkummar and Triptii, Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video also features Vijay Raaz, Mallika Sherawat, Mast Ali, Archana Puran Singh, Mukesh Tiwari, Saharsh Kumar Shukla, Archana Patel and Rakesh Bedi.
