Bollywood actress Kajol shared her thoughts on handling online trolls at the fourth session of Expresso. Reflecting on the complexities of being a public figure, she talked about the disconnect between the glamorous image projected on social media and the reality behind the scenes. Kajol spoke about how trolling is an inevitable part of a celebrity’s life in the social media era.
“I am thankful that I lived most of my life without social media. I only got on it six years ago. And it is not real life. You’ll see my photo on the red carpet, but not the fact that I woke up at 5 am to get ready, came back home at 11:30 pm exhausted, and was back at work the next morning,” she said, adding that, “We work as hard as everyone else, we have good and bad days, but when you post, you’re always smiling.”
Touching on the dual nature of fan reactions, Kajol shared a thoughtful insight: “When people love you so much, they feel they have the right to hate you too. I won’t say they are right, but as public figures, we have to deal with that.”
During the event, Kajol also lightened the conversation with some humour, calling herself the “laziest person” and speaking about the long breaks she’s taken throughout her career. Despite coming from a renowned film family, she revealed that her journey was her own. “If you look at my filmography, I’m probably the least worked actor. My mom and grandmom always told me that work is a part of your life, not your whole life. I took breaks. I wanted to get married and have kids,” she said.
Kajol will soon be seen in Do Patti, alongside Kriti Sanon, premiering on Netflix on October 25. She also has exciting projects lined up, including Sarzameen with Ibrahim Ali Khan, and Maharagni – Queen of Queens, where she stars alongside Prabhu Deva and Naseeruddin Shah.
