Maidaan Trailer Launch: Boney Kapoor Reveals Film Was Delayed For Five Years Due To COVID-19
At the trailer launch event, the producer Boney Kapoor, shared about the film being delayed by over five years due to pandemic and other problems.

The trailer for Ajay Devgn’s highly anticipated film, Maidaan, is finally out. A special launch ceremony was held in Mumbai to release the trailer, and it was attended by Ajay Devgn and Priyamani, as well as Boney Kapoor. Director Amit Sharma including the rest of the team members were also in attendance. While the making of the film was in talks for years, several issues delayed the shoot. At the trailer launch event, the producer, Boney Kapoor, shared about the film being delayed by over five years due to the pandemic and other problems.

At the launch event, Boney Kapoor expressed his happiness that the film was finally getting a release after the obstacles it faced. The producer stated, “We were in the midst of a crisis that the entire world was facing. During the lockdown, we had our sets standing in Madh for around three and a half years. When we would get a window to shoot, we had all the players and technicians coming from all over the world. They would land here, shoot a match for maybe eight-ten days and there would be a lockdown again. This happened to us thrice,” as quoted by The Indian Express.

Not only was the film delayed, but the producer also mentioned that the makers of Maidaan sustained losses when the film’s sets were devastated by the cyclone that hit Mumbai in 2019. Boney showed his gratitude to the technicians, who did not lose patience and were ready to finish the film. He added that their patience, along with their hard work, is the reason the film is being released now.

The director, Amit Sharma, said that the delay was “frustrating” because they kept preparing and the shoot never happened. He added, “When the shooting happened, we used to enjoy it, and that’s how we completed the whole thing.”

Maidaan is based on Syed Abdul Rahim, the Indian football coach who led the squad to Asian Games victories in 1951 and 1962. Ajay will play Syed Abdul Rahim and convey the narrative of this unsung hero. Maidaan is finally making its big screen debut, but it will have stiff competition from Bade Miyan Chote Miyan, starring Akshay Kumar and Tiger Shroff. Both films will be released on April 10. Meanwhile, Ajay Devgn’s latest film, Shaitaan, has been released and is getting positive reviews.
