Manichitrathazhu is a Malayalam film that continues to amaze generations even today and keeps the passion for it fresh in the audience with every viewing.

Many popular films in the South, in recent times, have been remastered and re-released in theatres. Joining the list, one of the all-time classics of Malayalam cinema, Manichitrathazhu, is all set to release in theatres again. Directed by Fazil, the film is set for a grand re-release on August 17. It has been remastered into a 4K version with Dolby Atmos sound and promises the audience an enhanced cinematic experience.

The psychological thriller was initially released in 1993. The film stars Suresh Gopi, Shobana, and Mohanlal in prominent roles. The distributors of the film shared on Instagram that the film will be released by E4 Entertainment on August 17. The film follows the story of Suresh Gopi’s character Nakulan and Shobana’s character Ganga, who move into their ancestral home, a mansion that is believed to be haunted, after returning to their hometown. Mohanlal appeared as psychiatrist Dr Sunny Joseph. The film turned out to be one of the finest psychological thrillers made in Indian cinema.

The film has won the National Film Award for Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment. The actress Shobana won the National Film Award for Best Actress. It also won three Kerala State Film Awards, including Best Film with Popular Appeal and Aesthetic Value, Best Actress and Best Makeup Artist.

The film was remade and released in Kannada as Apthamitra, starring Vishnuvardhan and Soundarya, in the year 2004, followed by the Tamil version Chandramukhi and the Bengali version Rajmohol. It was also released in Hindi as Bhool Bhulaiyaa, starring Akshay Kumar and Vidya Balan, in 2007. The audience is eagerly waiting to experience the evergreen film again in the theatres.
