The Dasara Film Festival Sub-Committee will be organising a competition for short films.

The Mysuru Dasara, a state festival of Karnataka, is around the corner. It is a 10-day festival which begins with the nine days of Navratri, apart from the last day called Vijyadashmi. The city of Mysuru has a long tradition of celebrating the Dasara festival with grandeur and pomp. To stress the importance of entertainment in this festival, the Dasara Film Festival Sub-Committee will be organising a competition for short films. This initiative is an attempt to encourage short filmmaking. Short films limited to 10 to 15 minutes duration will be considered eligible for participation in the competition. The top three short films will be felicitated with certificates, prizes, awards and cash awards from the organisers. The last day for sending the entries is September 12. Last year, District Minister ST Somashekar inaugurated the Dasara Film Festival at a programme organised by the District Administration at Kalamandira in the city. Hattrick Hero Shivarajkumar – who was supposed to be chief guest at the show – could not attend the programme. The Dasara festivities have been celebrated in a low-key manner for the past two years owing to the Covid-19 pandemic. In 2023, the Dasara festival was organised grandly with almost 124 km of lighted city roads.

Actors Kavya Shetty and Amruta Iyengar were among the celebrity guests. A total of 112 films including 56 Kannada, 28 Panorama, and 28 International Award-winning films were screened at three screens of INOX and one screen of DRC. The tickets were priced at Rs 300 for students and Rs 500 for the general public. A total of 10 short films were selected for screening at the upcoming Dasara Film Festival. A panel of five jurists reviewed and selected the best short films from among the 65 entries submitted to the Tourism Department.

These short films were showcased at Inox in Mall of Mysore on MG Road in Mysuru during the festival. The selected short films will contribute to the cultural enrichment of the festival.
