Actress Priyanka Chopra may be busy promoting her upcoming film Baywatch, and making appearances at international shows. But if a recent report is anything to go by, Priyanka will soon start working on the biopic of late astronaut Kalpana Chawla. The actress was last seen in Bollywood film Jai Gangaajal released early last year.

In 2016, Viacom 18 had declared that plans were underway to do a film that was based on a life of an astronaut. They hadn’t mention any names at that time. "The film will be mounted on an international scale. A new production company, Getway, is likely to produce the biopic," a source was quoted as saying by Mid-Day.

Sources also mentioned that Chopra’s team has also been part of the project for close to a year. "The script has also been locked," the source mentioned while speaking to Mid-Day.

Debutante director Priya Mishra too confirmed the news. "I have been working on it for the past seven years. A new production banner will back the project," Mishra was quoted as saying by Mid-Day.

Chawla was born in March 1962 in Karnal, Haryana. Chawla, who received her early education from the Tagore Bal Niketan School, completed her aeronautical engineering from Punjab Engineering College, Chandigarh. She moved to the US in 1982 and started working with NASA in 1988. Chawla died in February 2003 when space shuttle Columbia carrying her and fellow astronauts disintegrated after catching fire while returning to earth.
