Director S Shankar’s sci-fi action film Enthiran was released in 2010. In this film, Rajinikanth portrayed the role of a scientist and also a humanoid robot, while Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Santhanam and Karunas were seen in leading roles. According to reports, director Shankar initially planned to cast Kamal Haasan and popular Bollywood actress Preity Zinta in the lead roles for the movie Enthiran, during its planning period. However, Kamal Haasan was busy with his other work and also due to some other script-related issues, the actor decided to not move ahead with the film. Later, in the year 2007, Shah Rukh Khan and Priyanka Chopra were chosen as the lead actors but the talks failed to reach their goal. Due to some issues with the scriptwriter of the film, the production was halted for some time in October 2007.
After several challenges, Rajinikanth and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan were selected to portray the lead roles in the film. In 2010, the film also became the first Indian film to be made in such a grand way.
The story of the film revolves around the creation of a humanoid robot by a scientist named Dr Vaseegaran which later turns evil. The story unfolds various actions of the robot that stands as a threat to the human world. Rajinikanth played the role of Dr Vaseegaran while Aishwarya was seen playing the role of Sana.
Enthiran became a massive hit globally. The movie was released in different languages attracting a global audience. All the music pieces were composed by popular music composer AR Rahman. The second part of Enthiran was released in 2018 and was named 2.0 starring Akshay Kumar beside Rajinikanth.
