Samantha Ruth Prabhu Reacts To Vinesh Phogat's Retirement Announcement After Paris Olympics Disqualification
Vinesh Phogat's retirement announcement not only broke fans' hearts but also left celebrities in shock.

The 2024 Paris Olympics started with high hopes for India, but recent days have proven challenging for the athletes. Wrestler Vinesh Phogat initially made history by defeating Cuban wrestler Yusneylis Guzman Lopez. However, just an inch away from winning Gold, Phogat was disqualified for being slightly overweight before the match. The situation took a heartbreaking turn when Phogat announced her retirement from wrestling. This news not only devastated fans but also shocked celebrities. Recently, Samantha Ruth Prabhu, who couldn’t believe the move, expressed her sadness on Instagram.

The Family Man 2 star dropped a broken heart emoticon on her Instagram Stories. The actress posted journalist Faye D’Souza’s post on her handle, which carried Vinesh Phogat’s statement. “Mom, wrestling won against me, I lost. Please forgive me, your dreams, my courage, everything has been shattered. I don’t have anymore strength now. Goodbye Wrestling 2001-2024. Goodbye Wrestling 2001-2024. I will always be indebted to you all. Forgive me,” her statement read.

Before Vinesh Phogat announced her retirement, the nation rallied behind her when news of her disqualification surfaced. It was revealed that Phogat was just 100 grams over the weight limit required to compete in the 50kg final. During that time, Samantha Ruth Prabhu showed her support on Instagram by sharing Phogat’s winning moment from the semi-final and offering words of encouragement to the wrestler.

The Kushi actress wrote, “At times, the most resilient individuals encounter the toughest obstacles. Remember that you are not alone, a higher power is watching over you. Your remarkable ability to persist in the midst of difficulties is truly admirable. We will always stand by you through all your highs and lows.”

Speaking to Indian Express, Dr Dinshaw Pardiwala, Chief Medical Officer of the Indian Contingent in Paris, explained, “We had tried all the drastic weight cut measures through the night including cutting her hair, shortening her clothes, despite all of this we could not make that 50Kg weight category. We found that her post-participation weight was increased more than normal and the coach initiated the normal process of weight cut, that he’s always employed with Vinesh. This is something that’s worked with her for a long period of time.”

“He felt confident that this would be achieved and over the night, we went ahead with the weight-cut procedure. However, in the morning we found that despite all of our efforts, her weight was 100 grams over her 50Kg weight category,” he added. Pardiwala further mentioned that her health was normal during the weight cut. According to him, Vinesh felt fine throughout the entire process.
