Mithun Chakraborty is one of the icons of Indian cinema. He is known for his remarkable contributions to Bollywood with films like Disco Dancer. His name is also associated with many records that even stars like Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan couldn’t break. He remains the record holder in Limca Book of Records for 19 movie releases as lead actor in the year 1989. More than 10 films amongst these 19 projects were a commercial success at the box office. These films include Daata, Mujrim, Ilaaka, and others. He ruled the screen space in the films during the 70s and 80s.
As of now, Mithun has quite a big lineup of films which includes The Delhi Files, Lahore 1947, and Kabuliwala. Vivek Agnihotri will write and direct The Delhi Files backed by Abhishek Agarwal Arts. This film will be released in Punjabi and Hindi. Puneet Issar, Pallavi Joshi, Satwant Kaur, Anupam Kher, and others will act in The Delhi Files. Vivek told ANI that his film will deal with the 1984 Sikh riots that took place in Delhi. He added, “Delhi files will tell you lots of truth about Tamil Nadu also.” Vivek and Mithun collaborated on the film The Kashmir Files as well. The Kashmir Files received criticism from critics for being a propaganda film, promoting Islamophobia, and showing many factual inaccuracies. In one of the interviews, Kashmiri Pandit Sangharsh Samiti President Sanjay Tickoo also criticised the film. He said that the movie connected the attacks on Kashmiri Pandits to the abrogation of Article 370 and portrayed Muslims as jihadi.
Mithun last acted in the film Anaari Is Back, directed by Munesh Rawat and Chinni Prakash.
Mithun initially got married to model-cum-actress, Helena Luke. The couple, however, parted ways within four months of the marriage. He then tied the knot with the actress, Yogeeta Bali in 1979. The couple was blessed with three sons, Mahaakshay (Mimoh) on July 30, 1984, Ushmey on October 27, 1988, and Namashi on September 4, 1992. They had also adopted a daughter named Dishani.
