Director Suneel Darshan shared a shocking revelation about Twinkle Khanna and Akshay Kumar’s marriage. He revealed that the former actress, who married Akshay in 2001, walked out of their home over rumours about him and Priyanka Chopra. They also began filming for the 2005 film. However, rumours about Akshay and Priyanka made it to the gossip columns and it allegedly affected Akshay’s relationship with Twinkle.
Speaking with YouTube channel Friday Talkies, Suneel shared, “Akshay Kumar was the hero of Barsaat. As the film started, he faced some ‘ajeeb sa problem‘ with his wife. Barsaat had already started shooting with Akshay Kumar and Priyanka Chopra. The film was supposed to be shot in one schedule and five days before the schedule, Akshay called me and asked me to meet.”
When the duo met, Akshay informed him about a ‘blunder’ that has happened which resulted in his decision to step down from the film. “Kuch blunder aise ho chuke thay (He did some blunders). Some rumours about Priyanka Chopra and Akshay Kumar started doing the rounds and Twinkle had left his home. As an actor you have to be responsible. If your wife has been an actress, she knows everything about the industry and she has also worked with all the big stars. She knew everything,” the director shared.
He clarified that he does not blame Priyanka for the situation. “I don’t blame Priyanka Chopra for this. She was doing what was in her own interest,” Suneel said. Akshay’s exit opened the door for Bobby Deol. The filmmaker shared that Bobby had reached out to him with the interest to work with him. After Akshay’s exit, Bobby was roped in for Barsaat.
Bobby Deol shared the screen with Priyanka Chopra and Bipasha Basu in Barsaat. The film opened to mixed reviews and had an average box office collection.
