Aamir Khan, affectionately dubbed ‘Mr. Perfectionist’ of Bollywood, demonstrated his unmatched commitment to acting when he appeared fully nude in the opening scene of his 2014 film PK. During a recent appearance on The Great Indian Kapil Show, Aamir shared the challenges he faced while filming this pivotal scene and the extreme measures he took to ensure it was executed flawlessly.
Aamir recounted that initially, he had expressed his reservations to the film’s director, Rajkumar Hirani, about shooting the nude scene. To put him at ease, Hirani offered to provide specially designed shorts that would cover him somewhat, similar to an abdominal guard used in cricket, and decided to schedule the shoot in the less populated desert of Rajasthan.
However, the shoot didn’t go as smoothly as planned. Aamir humorously narrated, “On the shooting day, I wore those shorts. I came out with the radio. All phones were hidden on the set. I had to run in that scene. Till the time I was walking, it was okay, but when I had to run…(laughs). When I would run, the shorts would come off because it was fixed by a tape.”
He continued, “I faced a lot of difficulty in that shot. After one or two attempts, I told Raju, ‘Hatta yaar (Let’s remove it).’ I wanted to give the perfect shot. So I chucked it aside. I told everyone to go far behind the camera and I ran. ”
Reflecting on his initial reluctance, Aamir admitted he was embarrassed to be nude on set. “The reason behind doing this was that I used to feel ashamed thinking about this scene. I used to think that it would be really weird, me walking naked on the set. We are not used to it. I used to feel anxious about how I would do it. Everyone would be watching. I was feeling very embarrassed. But I swear, when I came on the set, I just wanted to work and my shot was getting messed up. So I told Raju, ‘These are unimportant things. What’s the big deal if you see me naked? We need to get the shot.’ I didn’t feel embarrassed at that time. I was also shocked that I did it.”
Aamir’s dedication paid off as PK not only garnered critical acclaim but also became the highest-grossing Indian film at the time, amassing a worldwide gross of Rs 769.89 crore.
