The superhit mythological show Mahabharata, broadcasted on the Star Plus channel, was completed ten years after its release. The whole cast and crew of the show celebrated the day at a Mumbai hotel with a reunion. To make the occasion even more special, the makers launched a pilot episode, to give the fans a glimpse at the initial making of the show. The creator of the show Siddharth Kumar Tewary detailed how it came to be and the challenges he faced.
The main man behind the blockbuster Mahabharat, Siddharth Kumar Tewary, interacted with the media on the occasion, talking about how he got the idea to create the show. According to him, when the people came to know about his plans, they tried to discourage him from making it. They said, “This is a bad omen.”
Siddharth believes that if a filmmaker or a producer gives his all on a “larger-than-life” story and ends up performing badly, it creates a kind of apprehension within the minds of other makers. So, when asked if this was a reference to Ekta Kapoor’s Mahabharata, he replied, “Of course. I didn’t know how to make a show of this genre.” It takes a good amount of experience for someone to make something so big. And when experienced people fail, it undoubtedly affects others, added Siddharth.
He revealed this is just a single aspect they went through, otherwise they had to face several challenges during the making of Mahabharata. The work was delayed due to many reasons and he had cast 2 to 3 actors, even before the show went into production. Speaking further, he stated, “What kept me going was my belief that this story needs to be told in today’s time. It is relevant to society at every level.” The story of Mahabharat has a “sensible message” behind it, one of the major reasons Siddharth had to bring it to the screens.
