Exclusive! Rhea Kapoor Confirms Veere Di Wedding 2, Reveals 'It Won't Be What Anybody Expects'
In a first, Rhea Kapoor puts all speculations to rest and confirms Veere Di Wedding 2. She also reveals what took her so long to lock a story for the sequel.

Conversations about a sequel to Kareena Kapoor Khan and Sonam Kapoor Ahuja’s 2018 chick flick Veere Di Wedding has been going on for a long time now. The film revolved around the trials and tribulations in the lives of four female friends and as per reports, it remains one of the highest grossing films featuring female leads. In March this year, producer Rhea Kapoor seemingly confirmed the sequel with a cryptic post on Instagram that read, ‘I never thought I was a sequel kinda girl but maybe I am.’ In fact, a few months back, a report also stated that the film is all set to go on floors next year.

And now, for the first time, Rhea has confirmed the news in an exclusive chat with News18 Showsha. Talking about what took her so long to helm a part two, she reveals, “I’m working on Veere Di Wedding 2. It will be very different, it’s not going to be what anybody expects. I didn’t want to do it until I knew that it would be better than the first one and I knew that it was going to be hard because Veere Di Wedding is my everything.”

But seems like she’s finally happy with the story the sequel will revolve around. “It’s such an important film for me. I love that film and very attached to it. I didn’t want to do it if I didn’t get the same amount of joy I did from making the first one. So, yes, Veere Di Wedding 2 is in the works,” Rhea shares.

Veere Di Wedding might have become a trendsetter that shattered the glass ceiling with its theme of female friendships and sexual empowerment but it opened to mixed reactions from the audience and the critics alike. And now with her latest release, Thank You For Coming, receiving a similar feedback for equating female sexual liberation as women empowerment, Rhea points out, “When I made Veere Di Wedding, people talked about how drinking and smoking isn’t empowerment. Now they’re saying that sex isn’t empowerment.”

The producer, who is currently also working on The Crew starring Tabu, Kareena and Kriti Sanon, further adds, “As a woman, everybody has their own fears, insecurities, shame and conditioning thrust upon them and they need to overcome them so that we can be free and talk about things and make ourselves feel better.”

There’s no confirmation yet on the cast of Veere Di Wedding 2 but some reports have suggested that Kareena and Sonam will reunite to take the franchise forward. Speaking to us, Rhea dropped a big hint about collaborating with her sister soon but whether that’s for the much-anticipated sequel remains unclear. “We are again coming together. I’m really excited about it because we are doing something completely different… We always find a way to come together (professionally),” she said.
